Rockaway Beach MO - After a few people asked me if I know anything about what was going on in some of the bars and eateries in Rockaway Beach, I decided to take a run down there and see what was what.
AMVETS - My first stop was a local American Veterans club that looked closed to me. There was also a sign that stated that fact.
Note that they normally open at 3PM, according to one website page, you you might want to give them a call to find out the real deal. They can be reached at (417) 302-5201.
Pizza Cellar - I stopped at the local Pizza Cellar and found the doors were open. When I approached one of the employees, I was told that they were 'sorta' open but were also on a waiting and see what the owners wanted to do. I didn't ask, but had the impression that I could have ordered a beer or a pizza.
Dockside Pub - I was able to talk with a spokesperson who informed me that as of that 'moment', they were open for business. They also informed me that while the City of Rockaway Beach had not said they had to close, that there were still constraints on the number of people that would be permitted. I Was told, 'sure', that I could order a drink.
The bottom line is that you are likely to get some service somewhere in Rockaway Beach, it just might change with time. Much of what is happening is happening due to fears that, in my opinion, are largely baseless.

Rockaway Beach to hold first Main Street meeting!
Rockaway Beach MO. - The first ever Town Hall Meeting for the Rockaway Beach Main street will be held on November the 9th, 2017 at 6:30 PM at the Community Center located at 2762 Street on Highway 176 in Rockaway Beach! In case you're not familiar with the Main Street Affiliate program here is a short explanation that was taken from their site:
'Main Street Alliance is a national network of small
business coalitions working to build a new voice for small businesses on
important public policy issues. Alliance small business owners share a
vision of public policies that work for business owners, our employees,
and the communities we serve.
The Main Street Alliance national network formed in 2008 to
give Main Street small business owners a new voice in the health care
reform debate, and has since broadened its focus to work on a range of
issues that matter to small businesses and local economies. Our growing
network includes small business coalitions in over a dozen states.'
According to an article published on November 1 in the Taney County Times, 'The evening will begin with a presentation from Missouri Main Street about the Main Street Approach ( registered trademark) to Revitalization.'
Additional information can be obtained by calling Jim Harriger, Director of the White River Community Development at 417-880-0749 or via email at jmharriger@gmail.com!

Rockaway and Merriam Woods join forces!
Oct 7. – In order to further the protection and safety of its citizens, the cities of Rockaway Beach and Merriam Woods elected to join their police forces together to bring that number to four. Almost from the get go, there were numerous arrests as the police executed an intense 'crackdown' via a saturation patrol.
Now, while that sounds good on the
surface. I cannot help but wonder what the effect of this action will
have over the long haul. Unless something is done to improve the
business atmosphere, I'm afraid both areas will become ghost towns.

Rockaway Beach hosts a biker event!
White River Grille |
I
stopped down at the White River Grille in Rockaway Beach recently, to
check out the Bikers & Babes at the Beach event that was
scheduled for Friday, July the 19th and Saturday the 20th.
(That was according to an article in a publication called the
'Branson
Connection'). What the article did not mention was that fact that
the event actually didn't start until 5PM on that Friday and then
would be going on all day Saturday! Nonplussed by this, I enjoyed a nice
breakfast called 'The Town Favorite' that was served to me by a great lady named Toni. It consisted of eggs,
home fries, toast, bacon and coffee; all of which was had for under $6! The
White River Grille is a good eats place for two reasons; one, they have a
great selection of food and two, the prices are really quite
affordable! Bill Kitchin, the owner, also made it a point to visit with me for a few moments before I left.
After
I finished eating, I wandered around a bit and noticed that a few of
the vendors were already
busy at work. I had to give kudos to them for intelligence as they were getting the hard work of setting up done while
the temperatures were still this side of bearable (76F). (Anyone who would be setting up
later in the day would have to tolerate readings in the mid 90's)!
----------------------------
Fast forward to the next day (Saturday) at 12:00 noon and things were very much in full swing, at least as far as the vendors were concerned. And there were lots of bikes parked along one side of the street, but few if any people wandering around. The time was about two in the afternoon and I realized pretty quickly why most of the crowd was holed up in the Civic Center or one of the bars. It was the oppressive heat combined with the high humidity that made standing around outside too much to bear for most! After making a circuit up the street (which was blocked to car traffic) and then back down, I was ready to vacate the premises. I'll make a guess that things got more interesting late in the day after the sun went down, but at my age, I really didn't have the desire to wait around. Maybe if they were to hold this event either in the spring or late fall I might give it a try again.
